UV Light (Germicidal)

An ultraviolet light installed inside your HVAC system that kills or neutralizes mold, bacteria, and viruses as air passes through, improving indoor air quality.

What Is a UV Light (Germicidal)?

Germicidal UV lights are installed inside your air handler or ductwork, typically near the evaporator coil. UV-C light disrupts the DNA of microorganisms, preventing mold, bacteria, and viruses from reproducing. There are two main types: coil-sterilization lights that run continuously to keep the evaporator coil clean, and air-sterilization lights that treat air as it passes through the system. UV lights are a supplement to good filtration, not a replacement for it.

Why It Matters for Your Home

The area around your evaporator coil is dark and damp — a perfect environment for mold growth. A UV light keeps the coil and surrounding area clean, which maintains system efficiency and prevents mold spores from being distributed through your home. It's a relatively affordable add-on that can make a meaningful difference in air quality, especially for allergy sufferers.
