Ductless Heat Pump

Another name for a mini-split system — a heat pump that provides heating and cooling without ductwork, using a wall-mounted indoor unit connected to an outdoor compressor.

What Is a Ductless Heat Pump?

Ductless heat pumps (mini-splits) have become one of the most popular HVAC solutions in the Pacific Northwest. They're incredibly energy efficient, can both heat and cool, and don't require ductwork. Single-zone systems connect one outdoor unit to one indoor unit. Multi-zone systems connect one outdoor unit to multiple indoor units in different rooms. They're ideal for additions, converted spaces, homes without ducts, and supplementing existing systems. Many qualify for substantial Energy Trust of Oregon rebates.

Why It Matters for Your Home

Ductless heat pumps are particularly well-suited to Southern Oregon's climate. They maintain efficiency at temperatures well below freezing, and many newer models work effectively down to -13°F. For homes with problematic ductwork, inadequate HVAC, or room additions, a ductless heat pump often provides the best combination of comfort, efficiency, and installation flexibility.
