Blower Motor

The electric motor inside your furnace or air handler that drives the fan pushing conditioned air through your home's ductwork.

What Is a Blower Motor?

The blower motor powers the fan that circulates all the air in your home. There are three main types: single-speed (on or off), multi-speed (a few set speed options), and variable-speed (ECM motors that continuously adjust). Variable-speed motors are significantly more energy efficient, quieter, and provide better temperature and humidity control by running at lower speeds for longer periods rather than blasting at full speed then shutting off.

Why It Matters for Your Home

A failing blower motor shows up as weak airflow from your vents, unusual noises (squealing, humming, or rattling), or the system not blowing air at all. Since the blower motor runs during both heating and cooling, it gets heavy use year-round. If you're hearing strange sounds from your air handler, getting it checked early can prevent a complete failure on the hottest or coldest day of the year.
